Kaleb Johnson had a huge day to lead the Iowa offense against Washington. He took 21 carries for 166 yards and two touchdowns while also adding three receptions for 22 yards and a touchdown in the air as the centerpiece of the unit.
It was a milestone victory for Kirk Ferentz, as well, as he picked up his 200th win as Iowa head coach. He reflected on what it meant in his postgame press conference, especially since Iowa avoided falling to 3-3.
“Two things: The honest answer is I was more focused on us getting four,” Ferentz said. “I didn’t want to think about being at 3-3 right now, and that’s just how it works in season. Everything is week-to-week. One thing in any league and certainly in the NFL and certainly in college football, if you lose back-to-back, that just makes things hard. That’s kind of just a staple. It’s all about getting back on your feet and getting back in the fight, and our guys did a great job of that.
“Then as far as the 200 part, you have to be lucky. You have to be in the right place, first of all. You have to be with a lot of good people, and that’s coaching staff and support staff. A lot of people are involved in this. I’ve worked with nothing but great coaches my entire career. I’ve been lucky wherever I’ve been.”
