Jadeveon Clowney, DaRon Bland injury updates: Brian Schottenheimer makes bold statement assessing Cowboys injuries

As the Dallas Cowboys head into another big-time matchup, there are some injuries plaguing them. Wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, plus right guard Tyler Booker, will miss the Green Bay Packers game and likely a few weeks longer. However, head coach Brian Schottenheimer provided positive updates on DaRon Bland and Jadeveon Clowney, saying they are trending in the right direction.
When making those announcements, some confidence did come from Schottenheimer. Taking the field without Booker and Lamb will be a difficult task for the Cowboys. Even so, Schottenheimer is confident in his team’s ability to get a win on Sunday Night Football.
“We’re good enough to beat the Packers without (CeeDee Lamb and Tyler Booker),” Schottenheimer said via Jon Machota of The Athletic.
Green Bay is coming off a tough result of its own. A last-second field goal from the Cleveland Browns meant the Packers dropped to 2-1 on the season. Quarterback Jordan Love threw a tough interception late in the fourth quarter, sparking the comeback. Not how anyone expected the game to finish by any means.
However, it’s the Packers’ defense that will benefit from not having Lamb or Booker in the lineup. And everybody in Dallas knows who would potentially be lining up against the rookie right guard — Micah Parsons. It’s a return just a few weeks after being traded away to an NFC rival, now getting his first opportunity to play in AT&T Stadium as a visitor.

“I think I know Micah pretty well,” Schottenheimer said. “They move him around a lot, which is great. I’m not going to give away our gameplan for Micah, but we’ll pay a lot of attention to Micah. They’ve got other really good players as well. Micah can be dominant. And we know that. We’re gonna hit him. We’re gonna put multiple people on him. It’s gonna be a long day for us and the guys trying to block him, because he’s that talented. But it’s not just about Micah.”
Schottenheimer described the week as a “normal” one. Parsons coming back is a major storyline for us on the outside but the Cowboys do not appear extra motivated nor have the desire to put a special emphasis on the game.
More than anything, the goal is to win. Dallas already sports a 1-2 record after getting blown out by the Chicago Bears this past Sunday. Dropping to 1-3 might bring a little panic for a team that believes the Super Bowl window is open.
Adding a Green Bay loss alongside one to fellow NFC contender, the Philadelphia Eagles, does not strike much confidence. So, winning on national television could wind up being quite important for the Cowboys. Thankfully, there is still a ton of belief inside the building.
