Report: Jadeveon Clowney meeting with Dallas Cowboys after Micah Parsons trade

Nearly two weeks after it rocked the NFL world by trading away All-Pro pass rusher Micah Parsons, the Dallas Cowboys are hosting his potential replacement. The Cowboys are reportedly meeting with free agent edge rusher and former No. 1 overall pick Jadeveon Clowney on Wednesday, according to NFL insider Josina Anderson.
“A league source told me Wednesday morning free agent edge rusher Jadeveon Clowney is meeting with the Dallas Cowboys (on) Wednesday to see if he can help bolster the team’s defense,” Anderson reported in a social media graphic released to X/Twitter. “The Cowboys host the Giants (on) Sunday.”
Two weeks ago, and one week before kicking off the 2025 regular season with last week’s Thursday Night Football game against the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles, the Cowboys gave into Parson’s trade request and dealt the two-time All-Pro and four-time Pro Bowl pass rusher to the Green Bay Packers for nose tackle Kenny Clark and the Packers’ first-round draft picks in 2026 and 2027.
The move came after contract negotiations between the 26-year-old Parsons and longtime Dallas owner and general manager Jerry Jones became irreparable when Jones refused to negotiate with Parson’s agent, David Mulugheta.
The 32-year-old Clowney is the former No. 1 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft out of South Carolina, and last played with his homestate Carolina Panthers last season, where he tallied 5.5 sacks and 46 total tackles in 14 games. The 6-foot-5 and 266-pound Clowney is a three-time Pro Bowl selection between 2016-18 in his final three seasons with the Houston Texans, who originally drafted him. Clowney has also played for the Seattle Seahawks, Tennessee Titans, Cleveland Browns and Baltimore Ravens, with whom he tied a career-high with 9.5 sacks in 2023. He has registered nine or more sacks four times over his 11-year NFL career.

Jerry Jones reacts to Micah Parsons’ Packers debut, recovery from back injury
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones had an interesting response about Micah Parsons‘ debut with the Green Bay Packers on Sunday. While appearing on 105.3 The Fan on Tuesday, Jones talked about watching Parsons in the season opener.
“From what I saw of him, I thought he was able to get in there and play without any influence from his back, and I say that with a straight face. I do,” Jerry Jones said, per Todd Archer of ESPN. “Having said that, wish him well.”
The Cowboys traded Micah Parsons to the Packers a week before the season kicked off. Before the trade, Parsons was not practicing with the Cowboys, as he said he was dealing with a back injury. Parsons was also seeking a contract extension with Dallas and publicly asked for a trade. That has led some to believe that the All-Pro pass rusher said he had a back injury so he would not be fined for not participating in training camp.
