Khalil Mack injury update: Chargers star leaves game after nasty collision

Los Angeles Chargers pass rusher Khalil Mack left the game against the Las Vegas Raiders on Monday night due to an elbow injury. The incident happened after a brutal collision in the second quarter, and the Chargers announced he is questionable to return.
During the ESPN broadcast, sideline reporter Katie George gave an update on Khalil Mack. “You saw Khalil Mack walk off the field holding that left arm and hand,” George said. “He then got on a cart. They’re driving him all the way to the opposite tunnel on the Raiders sideline so he can get some imaging done.”
The injury happened as Mack was going in for a tackle on Raiders wide receiver Tre Tucker. The 34-year-old was having a productive night as he posted one of the team’s two sacks at the time.
Not having Mack in the lineup would be a tough loss for the Chargers since he’s been one of the NFL’s top pass rushers in the last decade. Entering the Monday night contest, Mack recorded 107.5 sacks in 168 games. He has been named to the Pro Bowl nine times, selected to the All-Pro Team five times, and was named NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2016.

Why Khalil Mack re-signed with the Chargers
In March, Mack re-signed with the Chargers on a one-year, $16 million contract. Shortly after the signing, the Buffalo alum explained why he wanted to return to the Chargers for his fourth season with the team.
“Everything kind of played into it,” Mack said, per Chargers.com. “Just want to know your value, want to know what you meant to the team or a team in general. Just trying to figure that out and then go from there in making the decision on where and when and how and all the different intangibles of who’s here, who’s there.”
Mack then said the Chargers have “tremendous leadership here. You’re about the players in the locker room, I was talking about that last year. Just knowing what you’re stepping into, being very familiar with the guys that we have already here, and knowing what Coach [Jim] Harbaugh is building and what Joe [Hortiz] is building. That was a no-brainer.”
