Kyle Larson is receiving heat from fans after a video from the Indy 500 emerged that showed him reacting to Scott McLaughlin’s crash. The video shows Larson putting his thumb in the air as he drove by McLaughlin’s car.

On Larson’s radio, someone said, “Somebody just crashed, f***ing idiot.” Larson’s spotter then said, “Yeah, that is yellow,” before Larson gave the thumbs up. The spotter then said, “It was McLaughlin,” indicating to Larson that McLaughlin was the one who crashed.

Some fans believed that Kyle Larson was the one who called McLaughlin a “f***ing idiot; while some beleive it was the spotter. While the incident wasn’t a good look for the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series champion, he was under a time constraint as he had to travel to Charlotte to compete in the Coca-Cola 600 later in the day.

One fan wrote, “Guy is on an absolute time crunch that already got delayed 50 min from rain and got somebody wrecking on a pace lap, I’d be pretty frustrated too.” Another fan wrote, “Well I can understand from his point. He knew this extra time from starting the race meant he would have to retire before the end of the race.”

Kyle Larson missed out on completing the Indy 500, Coca-Cola 600 double

Ultimately, it was not a good day for Larson as he crashed during the 91st lap of the Indy 500. He was forced to leave the race, preventing him from completing the Indy 500 and Coca-Cola 600 double. Things did not get better for Larson while competing in the NASCAR Charlotte race as he was caught up in a wreck in Lap 246.

“The Double is just a tough undertaking,” Larson said after his wreck during the Coca-Cola 600, per NASCAR.com. “I think the window of time is too tight. Even if I didn’t wreck (at Indy), I don’t think I would have made it here in time and probably would have had to end that race short anyway.”

Kyle Larson attempted the Indy 500 and Coca-Cola 600 double last year. Due to weather, Larson finished the rain-delay Indy 500 but could not compete in the Charlotte race.
