Lamar Jackson is out for Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans, the Baltimore Ravens said after Friday’s practice. He is dealing with a hamstring injury which knocked him out of last week’s game against the Chiefs.

Jackson could also miss next week’s game against the Los Angeles Rams, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Since the Ravens have a bye the week after, that could give him an extra week of recovery while missing just one more game.

Jackson was among a list of Baltimore players ruled out for Saturday against Houston. The Ravens will also be without cornerback Chidobe Awuzie, cornerback Marlon Humphrey, offensive lineman Emery Jones, fullback Patrick Ricard and linebacker Roquan Smith.

Through four games this year, Jackson has completed 71.6% of his passes for 869 yards and 10 touchdowns, to one interception. He has also rushed for 166 yards and a touchdown on the ground. He left last week’s game against the Chiefs after throwing for 147 yards and a touchdown, along with his first interception of the year.

Now, Baltimore is not only without its quarterback for this week and possibly next, but also 1-3 entering the matchup with Houston. However, Schefter said there’s still time for the Ravens to turn things around despite the injuries. Given the timing of the bye, they can give themselves a chance to stay in the race if they can pick up a win over the next two games.

“In that division, with their schedule? They are far from out of it, far from out of it and they have the history they do,” Schefter said. “The issue they have right now, as we look at the schedule? They could be without seven or eight regular defensive starters on Sunday against Houston. This defense is decimated.

“There’s the next four games, though, and that bye figures in before the Rams game. This is a three-game home stretch. Honestly, they’re not thinking like this, but we can say it. They’ve got to find a way to win one of these next two, get to the bye, and get healthy for the stretch run.”

In Lamar Jackson’s absence, Cooper Rush is expected to get the starting nod at quarterback when the Ravens take on the Texans on Sunday. Kickoff is set for Oct. 5 at 1 p.m. ET on CBS.
