Lamar Jackson injury update: Ravens QB calls out Adam Schefter over speculation on the severity of his foot

Baltimore Ravens star quarterback Lamar Jackson couldn’t help but laugh after seeing a recent NFL Live hit from ESPN insider Adam Schefter on Instagram. The veteran dual-threat QB posted a rolling-on-the-floor-laughing emoji in reaction to a clip of Schefter speculating about his ongoing foot injury that’s limited him throughout training camp.

Jackson missed out on Thursday’s practice after another player stepped on one of his feet, prompting the team to do X-rays in order to assess the significance of his foot injury. During his Thursday hit on NFL Live, Schefter suggested Jackson’s injury was “scarier than the Ravens (have) let on.”

“It sounds like it was a little bit scarier than the Ravens let on,” Schefter said in the Instagram clip. “Because they did take X-rays. They did say there were no signs of any broken bones or any issues. And John Harbaugh admitted that his prayers were answered. So if it was anything that was nothing, he wouldn’t have to pray that Lamar Jackson’s X-rays would turn out the way they did.

“He didn’t practice today, the second-straight day, and look, they don’t have to have Lamar Jackson out there right now. They need him out there for the start of the regular season. So I imagine they’ll give that foot a couple of weeks to heal.”

John Harbaugh clarifies severity of Baltimore Ravens QB’s foot issue

Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh is setting the record straight on the severity of Lamar Jackson‘s foot issue. While speaking to reporters on Thursday, Harbaugh gave an update on Jackson and why he missed Thursday’s practice.

“He got his foot stepped on, like we said yesterday,” John Harbaugh said. “They did a quick X-ray, and there’s no damage or anything like that. I’m sure it’s a little sore today, so we just kept him in. He’s fine, he’s going to be good.”

During Wednesday’s practice, Jackson was inadvertently knocked to the ground about 90 minutes into practice, according to Jamison Hensley of ESPN. The two-time NFL MVP stayed on the field to throw a couple more passes before heading into the facility with a team doctor and trainer. Hensley said that Jackson was flexing his right wrist before leaving practice.

It’s likely Jackson will not play in the Ravens’ preseason finale against the Washington Commanders on Saturday, since he hasn’t played in a preseason game in four years. Jackson has not missed a game with an injury since the 2022 season.

Lamar Jackson finished the 2024 season with 4,172 passing yards, 41 touchdowns and only four interceptions, while rushing for 915 yards and four scores. He finished second in MVP and Offensive Player of the Year voting.
