Former NFL QB and current FOX Sports analyst Mark Sanchez has been arrested for his alleged role in an incident during which he was stabbed, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said in a statement. FOX previously announced Sanchez was in stable condition following the stabbing.

Sanchez, 38, is facing misdemeanor charges of battery with injury, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle and public intoxication, according to police. He remains the hospital and has not been booked into the Adult Detention Center as of publication.

The incident occurred early Saturday morning in downtown Indianapolis, police previously said. Sanchez was scheduled to call Sunday’s game between the Colts and Las Vegas Raiders for FOX.

“After further investigation and following consultation with the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office, IMPD arrested 38-year-old Mark Sanchez for his alleged role in this incident,” the IMPD said in a statement. “Sanchez was arrested at the hospital for battery with injury, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle and public intoxication, all of which are misdemeanors. All involved parties have been identified, and no further individuals are being sought by detectives.”

FOX59’s Angela Ganote reported Sanchez was not cooperative with police when they first got to the scene near Senate Ave. and W. Washington St. in downtown Indianapolis. Ganote added another man, who was listed as the victim in the police report, told officers he was delivering food when Sanchez told him he needed to move and could not park where he was.

The man then said Sanchez began threatening and followed him before attacking him, Ganote reported. After the man used pepper spray, he said he defended himself with a knife, and police said the man had a “significant injury to his face,” according to Ganote.

Sanchez played 10 years in the NFL after becoming the No. 5 overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft out of USC. He joined FOX as an analyst in 2021 and was set to work with Chris Myers for Sunday’s Colts-Raiders game. In a statement, FOX confirmed Sanchez was in the hospital and was in stable condition.

“Mark Sanchez was injured in Indianapolis on Saturday and is currently recovering in the hospital in stable condition,” the statement read. “We are deeply grateful to the medical team for their exceptional care and support. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mark, and we ask that everyone please respect his and his family’s privacy during this time.”
