The Cowboys are expecting to hear some pretty bad news about star cornerback Trevon Diggs. But his teammate and linebacker Micah Parsons says he’s got his friend’s back.

Thursday, a report from NFL.com’s Tom Pelissero indicated that Dallas believes Diggs has suffered an ACL tear, ending his 2023 season. He will undergo an MRI for further evaluation.

Diggs sustained the injury during Thursday’s practice. Shortly after the news broke, Parsons sent out a message on X (formerly Twitter).

“I am my brothers keeper,” Parsons wrote. “I got you 7! No more need to be said!”

Diggs is in his fourth season with the Cowboys and is a two-time Pro Bowl selection. He’s served as a key piece to a defense that has allowed just 10 points in two NFL games — all of those coming in a 30-10 win over the New York Jets last week.

Dallas shutout the New York Giants 40-0 in the season opener .

Through two games this season, Diggs tallied four tackles, an interception and a forced fumble. The Cowboys are off to a 2-0 start and appear to have one of the best — if not the best — defenses in the league.

NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport provided slightly more context to Diggs’ injury on Thursday.

“With Trevon Diggs feared to have torn his ACL in a non-contact 1-on-1 drill at practice today, the Cowboys are looking at potentially losing one of their top defenders,” Rapoport said.

Diggs played in all 33 regular season games for the Cowboys over the past two seasons. He led the league with 11 interceptions during the 2021 campaign. In his four NFL seasons, he’s tallied 173 tackles with 18 picks.

More bad news for the Cowboys

Diggs wasn’t the lone Cowboy to suffer an injury during practice this week. Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, starting center Tyler Biadasz sustained a hamstring injury on Thursday.

“Cowboys’ Pro-Bowl center Tyler Biadasz hurt his hamstring during today’s practice and is undergoing an MRI to determine the extent of the injury, per source,” Schefter said. “Another source said, ‘Tyler will be OK.’”

So, it sounds like the outlook for Biadasz is much more optimistic than for Diggs. Nonetheless, it was a tough Thursday in Dallas. It has to be especially frustrating given the team’s strong 2-0 start to the year.

Biadasz is also in his fourth season with the Cowboys. The former fourth-round selection earned his first Pro Bowl honor following the 2022 season.
