NASCAR driver Greg Biffle, others believed dead after plane crash in North Carolina

Terrible news out of North Carolina. Former NASCAR driver Greg Biffle and a number of passengers died in a plane crash this morning. The crash happened at Statesville Regional Airport in North Carolina. There were no survivors.

Greg Biffle made a name for himself in NASCAR as he climbed the ranks with Roush. He dazzled in the Truck Series and Busch Series until his chance finally came in the Cup Series, and he did not disappoint there, either.

Jordan Bianchi of The Athletic reports that the North Carolina State Highway Patrol has confirmed 7 deaths. They also said that they “believe that Mr. Greg Biffle was one of the deceased occupants.”

According to Garrett Mitchell, best known as Cleetus McFarland on YouTube, the Biffle family was on their way to spend the afternoon with him and his family. Greg Biffle, his wife, daughter, and son were all on the plane, according to McFarland.

The NASCAR community has been in mourning since he news of the plane crash came out around 10:30 AM ET today. There have been multiple posts and comments shared from drivers, crew chiefs, and others in NASCAR. A tragic day for a sport that has seen so much tragedy in the past.

Biffle’s Cessna C550 was identified by its tail number N257BW. Soon, the news had spread that he was on the plane along with his wife and two kids. There were three others on the plane as well.

Greg Biffle plane crash: Families release statement

In the hours after he news came out about the crash, the families of those involved released a joint statement. It is tragic that seven people were killed in the crash. There are multiple families hurting today.

“We are devastated by the loss of our loved ones,” the Biffle, Grossu, Dutton, and Lunders families said in a joint statement. “This tragedy has left all of our families heartbroken beyond words.

“Greg and Cristina were devoted parents and active philanthropists whose lives were centered around their young son Ryder and Greg’s daughter Emma (mother – Nicole Lunders). Emma was a wonderful human being with a kind soul who was loved by many people. Ryder was an active, curious and infinitely joyful child.

“Dennis Dutton and his son Jack were deeply loved as well, and their loss is felt by all who knew them. Craig Wadsworth was beloved by many in the NASCAR community and will be missed by those who knew him.

“Each of them meant everything to us, and their absence leaves an immeasurable void in our lives. We ask for privacy, compassion and understanding as we grieve and begin to process this unimaginable loss. We are grateful for the kindness and support that has been extended to our families during this incredibly difficult time. At this moment, our focus is on honoring their lives and supporting one another.”

While the NASCAR community mourns, these families are still processing the news. So, our thoughts and prayers are with the families of those involved as they go through this difficult time.
