This morning, a plane owned by former NASCAR driver Greg Biffle crashed at Statesville Regional Airport in North Carolina. There have been confirmed fatalities from the crash as local and federal officials continue to investigate the incident.

Fatalities have been confirmed, but we do not know the identities of those who were on the plane at the time of the crash. WSOC-TV has reported and confirmed with local officials that there were six fatalities.

The NASCAR world is collectively holding its breath. Biffle is a beloved figure in the sport. In recent years, Biffle made headlines with his piloting skills. He has helped with rescue efforts following Hurricane Helene and other natural disasters.

Earlier today, John Hunter Nemechek sent out a tweet saying “prayers out.” There have been a number of reactions in the NASCAR community since the wreck. However, there has been no confirmation about who was on the plane when it crashed this morning.

Multiple eyewitnesses at the airport and the adjacent golf course have given their views of the incident. It appears, according to those reports, that the plane attempted to come back to the airport and land shortly after takeoff.

WSOC-TV reports that the Cessna C550 with tail number N257BW was the plane that crashed. That plane is owned by GB Aviation Leasing, which is tied to the same address as Biffle. There are no reports of who was piloting the aircraft. Visibility was limited to about 5 miles around the time of the crash.

Greg Biffle-owned plane wrecks in North Carolina

Greg Biffle has, in recent years, earned as much of a reputation as a pilot as a driver. Biffle and his aircrafts have helped respond to multiple natural disasters. When North Carolinians needed help after Hurricane Helene, Biffle was there to respond.

Reports from this morning noted the rain and low visibility in the area around the time of the crash. There have been multiple videos and reports from eyewitnesses throughout the aftermath of the crash.

Investigations are ongoing. All the information we know at this moment is that the plane is owned by Greg Biffle. Again, no word on who was on the plane at the time.

Since the news has come out, the NASCAR community has reacted online. Drivers and others in the sport have posted asking for prayers and positive thoughts. The Biffle family is in our thoughts and prayers as we wait for more information to come out. When we have more information, we will share it here at On3.
