The weapons charges against New England Patriots defensive back Jack Jones have been dropped. Per Chris Mason of Masslive, he agreed to one year of pre-trial probation and 48 hours of community service in return for prosecutors dropping charges.

“Jack is grateful to have the case resolved and is looking forward to playing football,” Jones’ attorney, Rosemary Scapicc said.

Jack Jones was arrested in June at Boston’s Logan International Airport when two loaded guns were found in his luggage. That arrest came shortly after Jones tweeted about athletes with guns, telling Ja Morant to put his down.

“The Commonwealth states that consistent with its standard of review in all cases, it has thoroughly reviewed all the evidence in this case and determined that it cannot be proven beyond a reasonable doubt that Mr. Jones had knowledge that he possessed the firearms in his bag at the time of the incident,” the Suffolk County District Attorney said in a court filing.

Initially, he pleaded not guilty to two counts each of possession of a concealed weapon in a secure area of the airport, possession of ammunition without a firearm identification card, unlawful possession of a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm, and possession of a large-capacity feeding device.

For Jack Jones, this will end his legal saga. However, he is still going to need to deal with a possible punishment from the NFL itself. However, at the time, Ian Rapoport reported that this wasn’t an NFL issue.

Jones was a fourth round pick of the Patriots in the 2022 NFL Draft out of Arizona State. He played in 13 games as a rookie, recording two interceptions on the season.

Jack Jones’ attorney ripped the media

Shortly after the arrest, Jack Jones’ attorney Rosemary Scapicchio said that Jones had no intention of bringing the weapons to the airport that day. She also ripped into the media for its depiction of Jones throughout the process.

“He had no intention of bringing any guns into Logan Airport that day. He had no intention of bringing any guns on to an airport that day. I expect the evidence is going to show that he had no knowledge of what was going on,” Scapicchio said.

“It’s the social media, and the media, who have turned him into a thug, who have labeled him a thug, with no evidence whatsoever. Because he’s a young Black man, all of a sudden, he’s a thug. That’s what happened here. It’s disrespectful to Mr. Jones and every other Black man in America. This is the institutional racism we deal with every day in the court system.… That label that was attached to him through social media almost got him fired, and it was completely unfounded.”
