Phil Mickelson melts down, takes four shots from bunker

Phil Mickelson went through every golfer’s nightmare Friday at the PGA Championships at Quail Hollow Club. Mickelson found himself caught in a bunker and dug himself in an even deeper hole trying to get out.
Ultimately, it took him four shots to work his way out of the sand, significantly impacting his score for the 12th hole. You can view the moment for yourself below as Mickelson struggled to handle the situation.
Mickelson ended up scoring a quadruple bogey on the hole. He bounced back with a birdie on hole 13 and is +7 total at the PGA Championship. He maintained his momentum by scoring another birdie on the 14th hole.
Ultimately, Mickelson failed to make the cut in the PGA Championship after also having an early exit at The Masters. Prior to the Masters, he had achieved his highest LIV finish with a third-place result in Hong Kong.
Phil Mickelson has previously won the PGA Championship twice, most recently in 2021. But unfortunately for him, he wasn’t on his game this time around and the embarrassing sequence on the 12th hole is all the evidence of that.
Currently, Jhonattan Vegas leads the pack after Round 2 with a score of -8. There is a three-way tie for second place behind him between Si Woo Kim, Matt Fitzpatrick, Matthieu Pavon, all of whom sit at -6.

Si Woo Kim explains cigarette at PGA Championship: ‘Old and stressed’
One of the viral moments from the opening day’s action at the PGA Championship was a clip that circulated of Si Woo Kim. The veteran golfer was seen taking a drag of a cigarette as he walked up to a tee box.
He put it out just before taking his shot, but the whole saga caused many to wonder what the deal was. It seemed out of character for the Korean golfer.
One reporter asked Si Woo Kim about the moment at the PGA Championship after his round on Friday. He had a hilarious and endearing answer.
“Getting old and stressed,” Kim said. Relatable.
The comments immediately following the post about the cigarette by golf insider Daniel Rapaport were overwhelmingly positive. Here’s a smattering of them:
“One of us!” one user wrote. Added another: “He’s the best.”
