NASCAR fans have shown up and showed out at Pocono Raceway this Sunday. The track announced a complete sellout. Just before the NASCAR Cup Series gets going on the Tricky Triangle, fans cleaned the track out of the available tickets. This is the largest Pocono crowd since 2010!

If you insist that NASCAR isn’t doing well and that no one goes to races, you just aren’t paying attention. This is a massive win for Pocono Raceway, for NASCAR, and for motorsports in general. It feels like the enthusiasm in the sport is electrifying the fanbase and making new fans along the way.

Chris Knight with Catch Fence was at the track when officials made the announcement. He shared the news with the Twitter world. It goes to show how much work Pocono has put into their fan experience.

Pocono Raceway has been one of the most proactive tracks in terms of marketing in the last few years. They have a lot of sponsors and partners, and they have reorganized and remodeled the fan area and victory lane – now they have a sellout.

There is a fine line to draw between tradition and repetition. Tradition can even look different from year to year if you do it right. A lot of tracks and NASCAR promoters can learn a lot from tracks like Pocono. Put in the work, and the fans will respond. Of course, it helps that the Tricky Triangle has just one date on the schedule now.

Sold out crowd for the HighPoint.com 400 at Pocono Raceway. The atmosphere is going to be great and it should make for a better show on TV.

Pocono Raceway delivers two great races

Ahead of the NASCAR Cup Series taking to the track, Pocono Raceway hosted the other two national series. Both the Truck Series and Xfinity Series put on a great show. We had different tire and fuel strategies, drivers made big and bold moves that worked, and some that didn’t.

The one thing we didn’t have, was a runaway winner. Even in the Xfinity race, where Josh Berry swept the opening two stages, it wasn’t over until it was over. Austin Hill grabbed the win in that race with older tires on an overtime restart. It was impressive, to say the least.

Before that race, it was the truckers getting it done on the triangle. Zane Smith was strong. Corey Heim looked fantastic at times. However, it was KFB, Kyle Busch, that came away with the win. His last lap pass was a masterclass in racing. He made an aggressive move on Heim but not a dirty move.

What lies in store for us at Pocono Raceway for the NASCAR Cup Series? With a sold-out crowd and playoff hopes on the line for so many drivers, this one could get interesting.
