Puka Nacua injury update: Rams WR bleeding from head after big hit, exits to locker room

WR Puka Nacua exited in the first half of the Rams’ opener with a hit that left him bloody afterward. He’s now being evaluated for a concussion with him questionable to return to Los Angeles’ opener against the Houston Texans.
Nacua was seen bleeding from inside his helmet after taking a hit from C.J. Gardner-Johnson. Now, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Nacua is in concussion protocol back in the locker room.
However, according to Schefter and per the latest from KPRC 2 in Houston, Nacua has come back onto the field for LA. Aaron Wilson reported he has been cleared and is back into the game for the Rams.
“Puka Nacua has returned to the game,” Schefter posted online.
“#Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua back in the game after being checked out for a potential concussion,” Wilson tweeted out as well. “He was cleared and back out there @KPRC2.”

As of now, Nacua is the leading receiver for Los Angeles in the opening half against the Texans. He had five catches on his six targets for 66 yards, which averages out to 13.2 yards per reception. That’s been off of the play of QB Matthew Stafford, who’s been dealing with an offseason injury of his own with his back, as he is 8-14 (57.1%) for 73 yards.
Nacua is in his second season with the Rams. Over his 28 starts with LA, Nacua has 184 catches for 2,475 yards, averaging 88.4 yards per game and 13.4 per reception, and nine touchdowns. That’s after dealing with injuries last year as he was a Pro Bowler, Second Team AP All-Pro, and in second for Offensive Rookie of the Year as a first-year player in 2023 with 105 catches for 1,486 yards and six receiving scores.
It’ll be worth monitoring Nacua’s status this afternoon considering he was evaluated for a concussion for a time in the first half. Still, everything currently suggests he’ll remain out wide in what’s currently a close game with the Texans inside SoFi Stadium.
