Fort Lauderdale Police have released a statement on Saturday’s domestic violence arrest of Cleveland Browns rookie running back Quinshon Judkins, according to ESPN’s Daniel Oyefusi. Judkins was arrested Saturday afternoon in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. and charged with misdemeanor domestic battery, according to the statement.

“On July 12th, at approximately 9 a.m., Fort Lauderdale Police Officers responded to the 1500 block of West Cypress Creek Road in reference to a delayed battery,” the Fort Lauderdale Police Department Media Relations statement read, per Oyefusi. “Officers arrived on scene and spoke with the victim. During their preliminary investigation it was determined a battery had occurred. The officers made contact with the suspect and placed him into custody. He was transported to Broward County Main Jail. The suspect has been identified as Quinshon Judkins, DOB 10/29/2003 and has been charged with Misdemeanor Battery (Domestic) FSS 784.03-1a1.”

Judkins was still in Broward County Jail late Saturday night and was scheduled to appear before a judge on Sunday, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Judkins, who is in his first season with the Browns after being drafted with the 36th overall pick in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft, is coming off junior season in which he paired with fellow running back TreVeyon Henderson lead Ohio State to the College Football Playoff National Championship this past year. The 221-pound Judkins led the Buckeyes with 1,060 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns in 2024, while Henderson added 1,016 yards and 10 scores out of the loaded Ohio State backfield.

Judkins broke out as a true freshman at Ole Miss, compiling a career-best 1,567 yards and 16 touchdowns on 247 attempts in 2022. In three collegiate seasons, Judkins racked up 3,785 rushing yards, 442 receiving yards and 50 total touchdowns while averaging 5.1 yards per carry for his career.

Quinshon Judkins remains unsigned like majority of 2024 second-round picks

Judkins is among the majority of 2024 second-round selections that have yet to sign his rookie deal, negotiations that could be in jeopardy depending on the result of his legal situation. Only two of the 30 early Day 2 selections have come to an agreement with their respective NFL teams in a dispute about fully-guaranteed deals.

There was hope Judkins would be able to hit the ground running. Running backs are known to make early impressions, especially if a role is available. Cleveland is looking for any kind of offensive spark and Judkins entered the NFL Draft as one of the more proven backs available.

Instead, there are now some off-the-field issues to deal with. No further information on the arrest has been released. Training camp is not too far away, with the first day scheduled for Thursday, July 25. Preseason games will begin not too long after on Aug. 8. Usually, a stage where rookies can really flash their talent.

Sept. 7 is when the regular season will begin for Cleveland and it’s a big one for the Browns. An AFC North foe, the Cincinnati Bengals, will come to Huntington Bank Field for a Week 1 divisional matchup.
