According to ESPN’s Todd Archer, Dallas Cowboys cornerback DaRon Bland is “facing” surgery on his left foot. Bland is seeking another opinion before scheduling anything, coming one year after a similar procedure.

Even if Bland does not need surgery, Archer adds he is expected to miss the rest of the 2025 season. Dallas has three games remaining and is considered a long shot to make the playoffs. Now, an already weak secondary loses a key piece.

“Cornerback DaRon Bland is facing surgery on his left foot for the second time in as many years, according to multiple sources,” Archer said via X. “Bland is seeking a second opinion. No surgery has been scheduled yet. Even w/o surgery, he is likely going to end up on injured reserve w/ 3 games left.”

Bland has played in 12 games this season, recording 73 tackles, three tackles for a loss, and an interception. This comes after a massive extension signed in the offseason, where Dallas gave Bland a four-year deal worth $90 million. Everyone inside the building believes he can be a key piece of the defense moving forward.

However, cornerback has been a position filled with questions for the Cowboys throughout the year, mainly due to injuries. Trevon Diggs has not featured since October and rookie Shavon Revel needed time to work his way back from a torn ACL suffered in college.

Dallas will move things around moving forward, beginning Sunday vs. the Los Angeles Chargers. Two divisional games then close out the schedule, traveling to play the Washington Commanders and New York Giants.

From there, long-term questions will be asked about Bland’s health. Thankfully, a long period stretches between now and the beginning of 2026 training camp.

More on DaRon Bland, foot problem over the last couple of years

This is not the first time a foot injury has been an issue for Bland. Last season saw him miss the first 10 games of the season due to a stress fracture. Training camp is where the injury took place, being a huge blow to the Cowboys’ defense at the time.

Now, similar problems appear to be popping up. Bland’s health was a topic coming out of the Thanksgiving game, with head coach Brian Schotteneheimer answering questions about it before heading to Detroit. He downplayed the severity, which turned out to be true at the time, because Bland played vs. the Lions.
