Report: Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra's home reportedly engulfed in fire, no injuries reported

Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra was awoken early Thursday morning to a large fire engulfing his southwest Miami-Dade County home, according to Local 10 News out of Miami. NBC6 South Florida News confirmed the single-family home is registered to the 55-year-old Heat coach.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue told Local 10 News the fire was first reported around 4:30 a.m. ET. When firefighters arrived at the scene, they found two structures on the property fully engulfed in flames. No injuries have been reported, according to Local News 10.
“The call was upgraded to a second alarm for additional manpower,” MDFR wrote Local 10 News in an email Thursday morning. “Due to a partial collapse, units switched to a defensive attack and are still working to extinguish the fire.”
Erik Spoelstra wasn’t home when fire started, according to ESPN
Local 10 News shared video of what is described as a “visibly distraught” Spoelstra standing outside as firefighters attempted to put out the massive flames engulfing his home. A neighbor of Spoelstra reportedly told Local 10 News that the home had been undergoing renovations for at least a year, but he believed those renovations had been completed because Spoelstra recently hosted a large party in his backyard.

Spoelstra was not home when the fire first started, according to ESPN, and only arrived after the Heat team flight returned to Miami shortly after 5 a.m. ET following a Wednesday night game in Denver. Spoelstra and his ex-wife Nikki have three young children together: Santiago, 6, Dante, 4, and Ruby, 2, according to the New York Post. The couple divorced in late 2023, around the same time Spoelstra purchased the five-bedroom, six-bathroom home, according to property records obtained by ESPN.
Spoelstra is in the midst of his 18th season as the Heat’s head coach, replacing NBA coaching legend Pat Riley in that role in 2008. Over that time, Spoelstra has compiled a 791-576 record in 1,365 career games as the Heat coach, including a 4-4 start to the current NBA season. Spoelstra also won back-to-back NBA championships in 2012 and 2013 behind the Heat’s Big Three of Chris Bosh, LeBron James and Dwayne Wade.
