The Baltimore Ravens are set to hire Michigan defensive analyst Doug Mallory, according to Matt Zenitz of 247 Sports. Mallory will be a defensive backs coach for the Ravens, where he will work under John Harbaugh, the brother of former Wolverines coach Jim Harbaugh.

The move also marks a return to the NFL for Mallory. He previously spent six seasons with the Atlanta Falcons from 2015-20, working his way up to a senior defensive assistant and defensive backs coach. He helped the team to reach the Super Bowl in 2016, where it fell in overtime to the New England Patriots.

Mallory won a national championship with Michigan this past season, but it wasn’t his first time as part of a staff that won it all. He also worked as a defensive backs coach at LSU under Les Miles in 2007, the year the Tigers won the national title. He was promoted to co-defensive coordinator the following season.

Mallory is a former Wolverines defensive back who played for the team from 1984-87. He ended his career at Michigan with 182 tackles and six interceptions.

In addition to LSU, Mallory was also previously a defensive coordinator at Western Kentucky, New Mexico and Indiana. He is the son of former college football coach Bill Mallory, whom he worked under as a graduate assistant with the Hoosiers in 1988.

Doug Mallory would join a Ravens team coming off of an appearance in the AFC Championship this past season and aim to help get them to the next level.

Chiefs DL coach Joe Cullen a candidate for Michigan DC opening

Chiefs defensive line coach Joe Cullen is considered a candidate to become the defensive coordinator at Michiganaccording to CBS’ Jonathan Jones. Cullen is also reportedly a candidate for a pair of NFL defensive coordinator jobs with the Seattle Seahawks and Washington Commanders.

The Wolverines are in search of a new DC after Jesse Minter left to follow Jim Harbaugh, who accepted a job as the head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers. Minter coached Michigan to rank as the No. 1 scoring defense in the country this past season as it went on to win the national championship.

Cullen has worked in the NFL for the past 14 seasons as a defensive line coach for several different teams including the Jaguars, Ravens and Buccaneers. He has spent the past two years in Kansas City, helping the team to back-to-back Super Bowl appearances.

This season the Chiefs ranked second in the NFL with 57 sacks under Cullen’s direction. However, they did give up 4.5 yards per carry to opposing running backs to rank among the worst teams in the league.
