The Seattle Seahawks and offensive lineman Abe Lucas have agreed to a contract extension before the 2025 NFL season kicks off. According to Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network, Lucas will sign a three-year, $46 million contract with the chance to earn more via incentives.

Lucas was selected by the Seahawks in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft. He won the starting right tackle job as a rookie and started 16 of 17 regular-season games and one playoff contest.

Lucas has dealt with injuries during the last two seasons. In 2023, the former Washington State star played in just six games due to a knee injury he suffered in the season opener. Last year, Lucas began the year on the PUP list, as he had surgery on his knee. He was activated in November and played in seven games.

Abe Lucas talks about reocvering from injuries

In June, Lucas spoke to reporters about his health and was asked if he’s 100% recovered from his knee issues. “I don’t know if anybody’s ever really 100 percent healthy,” Lucas said, per Seattle Sports. “I’m playing – that’s a good sign.”

Lucas said the past two seasons have been challenging. However, he just focused on what he could control.

“Obviously, I wanted to play, but unfortunately, there are things in life you can’t really control,” Lucas said. “So it’s just up to you on how you want to respond. I took precautions to not let things get to my head. It’s probably the reason why I don’t have a Twitter, because I don’t need to deal with all that crap. But it’s like, OK, I had surgery, so now we’re going to go after the rehab and we’re just going to get back to getting right.”

A healthy Lucas will be key for the Seahawks, a team that has missed the playoffs the last two years. In 2024, Seattle finished the year with a 10-7 record and second in the NFC West under first-year head coach Mike Macdonald. After going 4-5 in the first nine games, the Seahawks finished the second half of the year with a 6-2 record. The Seahawks tied with the Los Angeles Rams for the NFC West title, but Los Angeles earned the tiebreaker due to strength of victory.
