WATCH: Russell Wilson reveals how Peyton Manning has taken mentorship role with him in Denver

Russell Wilson has had a relationship with Peyton Manning even before he entered the NFL. Wilson attended Manning’s passing academy during his high school years, soaking up valuable lessons that he later took with him to Wisconsin and the league.
Now, more than a decade later, he is once again attending the Peyton Manning school of football.
After spending the first 10 years of his pro career with the Seattle Seahawks, Wilson was traded to Denver this offseason. There he has reunited with Manning, who played four years with the Broncos and led them to a Super Bowl in 2015.
“We’ve been talking a lot,” Wilson said in a recent press conference. “I’ve gotten to know Peyton over the years. He was my quarterback coach way back in the day when I was in 10th or 11th grade. We’d sometimes spend a lot of time together back then in Louisiana at his passing academy. Over the years, we’ve connected and talked quite a bit. Since I’ve gotten here, he’s kind of taken me under his wing in a beautiful way. Ashley too has taken Cierra under her wing and just helping with schools and this and that. Where to eat and all these different things.
“But obviously, the thing that Peyton and I both love is football. We could spend all day watching football together. So that’s what we were able to do, spend a little time together. We’ll do more as we go, but it’s fun just to be around arguably the world’s greatest to ever play that position. To be able to learn, ask questions and talk football, that’s the fun part. Obviously you’ve got John Elway too, so there’s two of the greatest guys to play the game right in your midst.”

Wilson brings plenty of accolades with him to Denver, including nine Pro Bowl appearances. He also led the Seahawks to a Super Bowl victory in 2013 against none other than Manning and the Broncos. Now Denver is hopeful he can add another to his resume while a member of the Broncos.
It certainly worked for Peyton Manning, and he will look to pass that wisdom on to Russell Wilson this season. Wilson is set to take over a Broncos passing attack that ranked just 19th in the NFL this past season, but features some talented young receivers in Jerry Jeudy and Courtland Sutton.
Russell Wilson is set to make his Denver debut on Monday, Sept. 12 against his former team in Seattle.
