Trevon Diggs injury update: Cowboys CB's physical results, roster status revealed

Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs has passed his physical exam and been moved from the physically unable to perform (PUP) list to the team’s active roster, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Diggs hasn’t practiced this offseason, as he’s been recovering from a chondral tissue graft surgery he had on his knee in January.
Diggs only played 11 games last season the Cowboys announced he’d miss the rest of the season to undergo surgery. He finished the year with 42 tackles, 11 pass breakups and two interceptions. The season-ending procedure was on the same knee he tore his ACL in during the 2023 campaign.
Diggs only played two games in the 2023 season before suffering the ACL tear. It was a disastrous injury for Diggs, who had signed a five–year, $97 million contract extension only months before the season began.
Since Diggs has been unable to practice this offseason, it’s unclear if he’ll be ready for the Cowboys’ Week 1 showdown against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sept. 4. Alas, first-year Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer has been pleased with Diggs’ recovery efforts.
“I’d be remiss if I didn’t talk about how hard Trevon’s been working,” Schottenheimer said. “He’s doing an incredible job with Britt [Brown]. These things don’t happen if he’s not putting in the time and the effort to do the stuff that he’s been doing. Really proud of him.”
Diggs isn’t the only player in the Cowboys’ secondary who’s been battling injuries this offseason, and the former Alabama standout’s return would be welcome by Dallas’ coaching staff. Of course, he’ll first need to show he’s ready to make a safe return.

“I want to practice a lot,” Diggs said when asked about his potential return. “I want to get as much practice as possible, get the game reps in, get the live reps in. I haven’t practiced in a while, so I feel the practice will tell a lot more where I am.
“I think it’s a mutual decision… If they see something that I don’t see or if I feel something that they don’t know that I feel, it’s going to be that. It’s just about communicating and going out there and seeing what I can do.”
Trevon Diggs was spectacular in his first three seasons with the Cowboys. He was particularly phenomenal in 2021, when he tallied an NFL-high 11 interceptions, two of which he returned for touchdowns.
For his efforts, he’s been named a First-Team All-Pro once and a Pro Bowl selection twice. Diggs will look to reach his former heights in the upcoming season.
