The Washington Commanders still haven’t decided what to do with the second pick of the NFL Draft. And other teams now are calling to ask about a trade for the lofty choice.

This is according to NFL insider Jeremy Fowler with ESPN. The Commanders can either select a quarterback with the pick. Or, the team can pile up draft picks with a trade. Washington needs a roster redo under new coach Dan Quinn.

Fowler provided Commanders details, Saturday.

“They have been unpredictable, and I’ve talked to a team source who said they are still open with a thorough process. They have not made a firm determination on which direction they’re going. Everybody around the league expects Chicago at 1 to take Caleb Williams of course. So, Washington’s going to go into next week with a contingent going to the Pro Days of both Jayden Daniels at LSU, Drake Maye at UNC. They’re going to shake that out, see what they like. Kliff Kingsbury the OC will be there with head coach Dan Quinn, and they’ll have the cavalry.

“So, they’re going to after that sort through the entire process. I know they are getting calls, inquiries about the No. 2 pick from teams potentially moving up. But largely, despite all of those theatrics, the feeling around the league is they’ll take one of those two guys that you rarely get a chance to take at No. 2 a quarterback like they have now.”

Daniels is having his Pro Day this coming Wednesday, with Maye following a day later. Williams threw for the scouts this past Wednesday, with J.J. McCarthy doing so Friday. All four of the quarterbacks are expected to be selected in the top 10 of the draft.

The Commanders are in dire need of a quarterback. They seemingly prepared the way to draft a QB at No. 2 when they traded Sam Howell to the Seahawks. Washington also signed Marcus Mariota as a backup. Jake Fromm is the only other quarterback on the roster.

There are other teams that need a quarterback, but are not selecting in the top 10. The Vikings appear to be looking to trade up after they lost Kirk Cousins to the Falcons in free agency. However, it is expensive to trade for the No. 2 pick. CBS Sports speculated it could cost the Vikings both their first round picks, Nos. 11 and 23. Plus, Minnesota would lose No. 108, which is in the fourth round. There is more. Minnesota also would send the Commanders their first-round pick for next year along with a third rounder.

The Broncos also may be interested in moving up to select a quarterback. Meanwhile, the Cardinals and Chargers, which select at No. 4 and No. 5, have indicated they would be interested in trading down.

The NFL Draft is April 25-27. It seems that both the Bears and Commanders are on the clock.
