The Jayhawks and Mountaineers had played each other only one time prior to 2012 when West Virginia joined the Big 12. The Mountaineers won that meeting by a score of 59-10 and hold a 11-2 all-time advantage in the series.

WVU also claimed last season’s matchup, though it was a close one with a final score of 32-28. Garrett Greene threw for two touchdowns and rushed for another in that win, though he has since graduated from the program.

This year’s West Virginia team is coming off of a 31-24 overtime victory against Pittsburgh in the Backyard Brawl over the weekend. The Mountaineers leaned on their rushing attack, getting 141 yards rushing and three touchdowns out of running back Tye Edwards.

WVU was just one week removed from a puzzling 17-10 loss against Ohio, so this in will hopefully help them get their momentum back on track. If it does, they could be looking at increasing their advantage in the all-time series against Kansas.

The Jayhawks had this past week off after falling 42-31 against Missouri in a Week 2 rivalry game. KU is off to a 2-1 start to the season and led by sixth-year quarterback Jalon Daniels on offense.

So far this season, Daniels has thrown for 679 yards and scored 10 total touchdowns through the first three games of the season. His experience will be key if the Jayhawks hope to start off conference play with a win here.

“Adversity is going to strike in your life at some point. It’s not about what happened. It’s about how you respond to it,” Daniels said of last week’s loss. “So how are we going to handle adversity? Are we going to look at ourselves in the mirror and be able to try to get better? Are we going to look at ourselves in the mirror and keep beating ourselves down? And at the end of the day, beating yourself down is not going to bring out anything positive. So as a leader and captain on this team, I’m going to make sure that we stay together, stay close, stay tight.”
