Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy was a full participant at today’s practice, per ESPN‘s Adam Schefter. This puts Worthy on track to play on Sunday in a monstrous AFC matchup between the Chiefs and the Baltimore Ravens.

Worthy exited Kansas City’s season opener against the Los Angeles Chargers early after colliding with teammate Travis Kelce on a crossing route. The team initially ruled him as questionable to return, before announcing he wouldn’t be returning due to a shoulder injury. He’s missed the last two games, in which the Chiefs went 1-1.

Kelce was hard on himself postgame after accidentally taking out his teammate. The four-time All-Pro cited being in the league for so long that he’s got to be better in that situation.

“I’m supposed to be running my route at depth for Worthy,” Kelce said on New Heights. “So, it’s frustrating for me. I was trying to kind of set up my guy to be able to get into position, and it all just happened pretty quick. I just gotta be better, man. I’m 13 years in the league. There is no excuse for me running into my own guys like that.”

Worthy’s return is much anticipated for the Chiefs wide receiver core

Worthy was excellent in his debut NFL campaign last season, recording 59 catches for 638 yards and six touchdowns. Prior to his exit against LA, Worthy did not record a catch. His 638 receiving yards last season were the second-most for the Chiefs, trailing only Kelce.

Worthy is a dangerous downfield receiver, which led to the Chiefs selecting him with the No. 28 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft after he set the NFL Combine record in the 40-yard dash with a 4.21-second time. He now rejoins Kansas City’s wide receiver core, consisting of JuJu Smith-Schuster, ‘Hollywood’ Marquise Brown and Tyquan Thornton. Rashee Rice is eligible to return from his suspension in Week 7.

Before entering the professional scene, Worthy spent three seasons at Texas. In 39 career appearances for the Longhorns, he amassed 197 catches for 2,755 receiving yards and 26 touchdowns.

If he is indeed ready to go this weekend against the Baltimore Ravens, he will be a major addition to Patrick Mahomes‘ repertoire. Kansas City opened the season with an 0-2 record, but notched their first win of the season last Monday night with a 22-9 defeat of the New York Giants.
