Pass catching

A budding ball carrier with interesting measureables. The 6-foot, 200-pound rising Junior is a warrior in the weight room and reportedly runs a 4.5 40. Both his brawn and his burst are visible on tape. Even though he plays for a program that hasn't had a winning record in over a decade, he's a clear bright spot. He is crucial to his team’s game plan due to his ability to run between the tackles, catch passes out of the backfield, block, and help spread out opponents.

Contact balance is easily the best part of his profile. Though not a punisher — he only had a few examples of delivering a punishing pop — he keeps his feet and balance routinely. Simply, he is a difficult man to corral, especially one-on-one. He possesses clear strength, rarely getting knocked back. Plus, he's shown a willingness and an edge to him when asked to block.

Paired with that brawn is a clear nimbleness. When his initial momentum is built up, he's quite dangerous. He can glide, cut, spin, and tightrope to manufacture extra room to run. Still, his ability to stop and restart is what impresses most. Able to brake to a near halt and then pick up immediate steam, he's an excellent stressor searching for open space. Defenses have to gauge both a potential footrace and changing their pursuit angles. He has a good habit of falling forward and keeping his footing through traffic.

His team runs outside zone, and there are numerous examples of finding the correct hole on cutups and cutbacks. He's a quality one-cut back who knows when to put on the jets getting north upfield. Though lacking top-shelf speed, he is skilled at turning a sliver of daylight into a big gain. For what it's worth, he seemed much more comfortable when he had a chance to work inside rather than footraces towards the sideline. And even though he has serviceable open-field wiggle, I wouldn't categorize him as incredibly shifty or built to win laterally at this time. He falls outside the camp of ball carriers that can score on any play; developing additional explosiveness could really level up his game.

But in an age where pass catching is as important as ever, he showed some value in that department. Despite not having a good amount of receiving work on tape, he's a capable playmaker with soft hands that can pick on linebackers in the flank and flat. His junior usage should have many more examples of him being used both out of the backfield and working the short and intermediate areas when lined up out-wide.

For a first-year starter as an underclassman, he teases clear ability. And if he continues to impress behind a versatile skill set and nice frame, he could garner G6 attention.
