Gavin Holmes was an On3 Consensus three-star recruit coming out of Metairie (Louisiana) Archbishop Rummel in the 2020 recruiting class. He signed with Wake Forest over offers from Colorado, UTSA, Old Dominion, Louisiana-Monroe and others. Holmes appeared in 11 games in the 2022 season, helping Wake Forest to a 7-5 record. He had a career-high 23 tackles to go with nine passes defended. After the 2022 season, Holmes entered the Transfer Portal with two years of eligibility remaining.
