    Talented pass catcher with plus ball skills and the ability to make acrobatic grabs. Touts some of the better ball skills among tight end prospects in the 2023 cycle. Plays as an outside receiver and occasionally lines up as an in-line tight end for his high school. Accounted for 985 yards and 12 touchdowns on just 31 catches as a junior. Has very strong hands and wins in jump-ball situations with consistency. Makes tough catches look routine. Runs well and can pull away from defensive backs when in the open field. Also plays defense, with a productive junior year at linebacker. Has unverified size and will need to continue growing in terms of stature and bulk. Young for the class, not turning 18 years-old until August of his freshman year of college.

    Javonte Vereen‘s big junior season continued with four catches for 146 yards and two touchdowns in a first round playoff win. The 6-foot-4, 210-pounder showed some rare after catch ability in taking making several defenders miss on a 43-yard catch-and-run touchdown. He also made a fantastic high-point, contested grab down the sideline before scoring a 60-yard touchdown on a vertical route.

    Javonte Vereen had a strong sophomore season in the spring but has taken his game to another level this fall. The 6-foot-4, 210-pounder has been dominant for eastern North Carolina power Havelock. Vereen is a bouncy pass catcher with the ability to win in contested situations while also showing athleticism after the catch. So far, he has caught 22 balls for 765 yards (34.4 yards per catch) and 10 touchdowns in seven games. He’s also playing outside linebacker and has 38 tackles, four tackles for loss and one interception. In-state programs NC State and East Carolina have offered this fall. It’s a safe bet that more are on the way.
