Personal Life
Mario Luna, known as “Torta Power,” is a Mexican-American offensive lineman in the Class of 2029 at Orange Lutheran High School in Southern California. His football journey began long before competing in the Trinity League. With family roots in Ensenada, Tijuana and Rosarito, Baja California, Mario grew up around Mexican culture while developing a passion for American football. Mario played youth football with programs on both sides of the border, including teams in Baja California and Southern California. His family made significant sacrifices to give him opportunities to develop, including long drives between Mexico and the United States for practices, games and training. Those experiences helped shape the toughness, discipline and work ethic behind the “Torta Power” identity. Mario moved to the United States in 2023 to pursue higher-level academic and football opportunities. As a freshman at Orange Lutheran, he earned a starting position on the varsity offensive line, competing in the Trinity League and CIF Southern Section from the beginning of his high school career. He started at Left Guard as a freshman while also developing at Center. As a sophomore, he expanded his versatility by playing Right Tackle, giving him varsity experience across multiple offensive line positions. His varsity film against programs including Basha (Arizona), Cathedral Catholic (San Diego) and Junípero Serra (Gardena) has allowed him to compete against high-level defensive fronts and Division I recruited players. Film evaluation across those matchups has consistently shown power, contact balance, lateral movement, recovery ability and the ability to sustain and finish blocks. Mario takes pride in staying connected after contact, continuing to move his feet, re-fitting his hands when defenders counter and competing through the whistle. Mario understands that playing offensive line is about much more than size and strength. He continues working to improve his pass protection, footwork, hand placement, leverage and positional versatility with the goal of becoming a complete offensive lineman capable of playing multiple positions at the college level. Away from football, academics are an important part of Mario’s development. He has maintained approximately a 3.9 GPA while balancing varsity football, training and travel. He earned Trinity League Scholar Athlete recognition as a freshman and received Orange Lutheran’s Core Value Award for “LOVE.” “Torta Power” also represents Mario’s personality and Mexican heritage. What started as a football nickname has grown into an identity centered around being proud of where he comes from, bringing personality to the offensive line position and representing Latino athletes in football. He hopes his journey can inspire younger players, particularly kids from Mexico and Latino communities who may not traditionally see many offensive linemen with backgrounds similar to his competing at this level. Despite becoming a varsity starter as a freshman, Mario views his high school career as only the beginning. As a Class of 2029 offensive lineman competing in one of Southern California’s toughest football environments, his focus remains on technical development, becoming stronger and more athletic, competing against elite defensive players and preparing himself for college football. His approach is simple: represent his family, his Mexican roots, his teammates and his school every time he steps on the field. Puro Torta Power. 🇲🇽🇺🇸
