2026 CB Makhi Boone talks flip to West Virginia

Makhi Boone has committed to West Virginia. The Lakewood (Ohio) St. Edward three-star cornerback, flipped from Miami (OH) to West Virginia on Sunday night.
Boone spoke with me for Rivals to explain the decision.
“I’ve always wanted to play competitive football and be coached by the best,” Boone said.
“WVU offers the opportunity to do that. The culture and fans at WVU show how much they love the game and that’s the kind of environment I want to be part of.”
Things progressed very quickly between Boone and West Virginia. He picked up his offer from the Mountaineers on Nov. 6 and then quickly set an official visit. That visit took place last weekend for the team’s 29-22 win over Colorado.

“I loved hearing how the program focuses on developing players beyond football,” Boone said.
“They have academic support and career development resources that stood out to me.”
The Ohio native also held offers from Kent State, Bowling Green, Buffalo and others. But now he’ll join coach Rich Rodriguez’ rebuild of West Virginia football.
“There are a lot of things I look forward to but the nutrition and strength program are important to me,” he said.
