Irvine (Calif.) <a href="https://www.on3.com/high-school/crean-lutheran-irvine-ca-25245/">Crean Lutheran</a> three-star defensive lineman <a href="https://www.on3.com/rivals/anthony-jones-238426/">Anthony Jones</a> has decommitted from <a href="https://www.on3.com/college/ucla-bruins/">UCLA</a>, he tells Rivals’ Adam Gorney.



He’s now the third decommitment for the Bruins following their firing of head coach <a href="https://www.on3.com/rivals/coach/deshaun-foster-132917/">DeShaun Foster</a> on Sunday afternoon. Jones was committed since May 15.



He is the No. 482 overall prospect and No. 50 DL in the 2026 cycle, according to the <a href="https://www.on3.com/db/rankings/industry-player/football/2026/">Rivals Industry Ranking</a>, a weighted average that utilizes all major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 40 player in California.



The 6-foot-4, 290-pounder joins four-star offensive tackle <a href="https://www.on3.com/rivals/johnnie-jones-240387/">Johnnie Jones</a> and three-star EDGE <a href="https://www.on3.com/rivals/yahya-gaad-239791/">Yahya Gaad</a> as those who have backed off their commitments to the West Coast program thus far. UCLA entered the day with the nation’s No. 23 class, per the <a href="https://www.on3.com/rivals/rankings/industry-team/football/2026/">Rivals Industry Team Recruiting Rankings</a>.



UCLA parted ways with Foster following an 0-3 start. The Bruins lost 35-10 at home to New Mexico on Friday night, a loss that Jones labeled <a href="https://www.on3.com/rivals/news/recruit-reaction-pours-in-as-ucla-fires-coach-deshaun-foster/">“disappointing to say the least”</a> when speaking with Gorney.



<a href="https://www.on3.com/college/washington-huskies/">Washington</a> and <a href="https://www.on3.com/college/tennessee-volunteers/">Tennessee</a> were among the programs that previously contended for Jones’ commitment earlier this year. He logged an official visit to Knoxville at the end of June. UCLA was the local program, though, and it had the Irvine product locked in this fall. He was one of eight in-state commits for the Bruins before the firing of Foster.

Foster finished his time at UCLA with a 5-10 record, going 5-7 in 2024. The Bruins started 1-5 but rallied down the stretch, signaling good things to come. However, it was not be for Foster at his alma mater.



Foster was even asked after the latest loss if he was still the right guy to be able to lead UCLA. The administration thought otherwise.



“Most definitely,” Foster said Saturday night. “(Why?) Because I can get these boys to play … “If you’re a real Bruin, you’ll still be a fan. There are plenty of programs that have had unfortunate starts who have turned stuff around. You’re either going to stick with it or not.”



Foster stepped in after <a href="https://www.on3.com/rivals/coach/chip-kelly-133991/">Chip Kelly</a> left Westwood to take the <a href="https://www.on3.com/teams/ohio-state-buckeyes/">Ohio State</a> offensive coordinator job in February 2024. The first-time head coach signed a five-year, $15 million deal at the time, a discount compared to Kelly’s contract.
