Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco three-star linebacker Matthew Muasau has decommitted from UCLA, he announced on Thursday via X.

Pledged to the Bruins since May 14, he now joins a laundry list of prospects that have come back on the board following the firing of second-year head coach DeShaun Foster.

“First off, I want to thank the entire UCLA staff for believing in me and giving me the opportunity to be part of the Bruin family. After a lot of thought and prayer, I’ve decided to decommit from UCLA and reopen my recruitment,” Muasau wrote. “Much love and respect to UCLA, wishing them nothing but success moving forward.”

Muasau is the No. 148 linebacker prospect and No. 137 player in California in the 2026 cycle, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all major recruiting media companies. He checks in as the No. 1,602 recruit nationally.

The 6-foot, 235-pound Muasau is now the 10th prospect in the 2026 cycle to decommit from the Bruins since Foster was relieved of his duties last month. UCLA had compiled 22 commits prior to Foster’s firing, but Muasau’s decision brings UCLA’s pledge list down to a dozen names with the December signing period just two months out.

Muasau is the younger brother of former Bruins LB and current New York Giant Darius Muasau. He was set on playing his college ball at Westwood, but is now set to look elsewhere, like many of the other recruits that previously pledged to Foster and Co.

On Sept. 26, Rivals’ Adam Gorney reported that but WashingtonSan Diego State, UNLV and New Mexico had all reached out to Muasau. Arizona and Charlotte are others that have previously offered the senior, who plays for one of the premier high school football programs in the nation in St. John Bosco.

Who’s still in UCLA’s 2026 class?

Muasau is the third decommitment of the week for UCLA, following Florida-based three-star wide receivers in Xavier Stinson and Santana Carlos. Of the 12 names still in the Bruins’ class, as of Oct. 2, three are blue-chip recruits.

Marion (Mass.) Tabor Academy four-star defensive lineman Carter Gooden is now the top-ranked commit in the class, checking in as the No. 173 recruit, No. 17 DL and top-ranked player in Massachusetts.

Fort Pierce (Fla.) Vero Beach four-star interior offensive lineman Micah Smith was one of the many Sunshine State recruits to pick UCLA this summer. He is still committed, though Ole Miss got him on campus over the weekend.

Stockton (Calif.) St. Mary’s four-star wide receiver Kenneth Moore is now one of five in-state commits still in the fold. He’s been committed to the Bruins since last November. Other top commits still in the class include: Littleton (Colo.) Heritage tight end Camden Jensen, Georgetown (Texas) WR Xavier Warren and Marion (Mass.) Tabor Academy DL Marcus Almada.
