3-star Texas CB Jalon Peoples decommits from Kansas

Three-star cornerback Jalon Peoples from Cedar Hill (Texas) decommitted from Kansas on Tuesday, announcing the decision on his Twitter page.

He was the No. 1 prospect in the 2022 recruiting class for the Jayhawks.

After much prayer and talks with my family, I have decided to decommit from The University of Kansas and open up my recruitment.

What programs are in the mix for Jalon Peoples?

Jalon Peoples announced a top five of Baylor, Iowa, Kansas, SMU and Texas Tech in April.

During the first four weeks of June, he went on visits each weekend. He was in Lawrence, Kan., on June 4 and then went to Iowa, Texas Tech and Baylor.

He committed to the Jayhawks on June 27 after those visits were complete.

Those four schools are most likely still in the mix.

Both Iowa does not have any cornerback recruits committed at this moment, while Baylor and Texas Tech both have two.

Jalon Peoples is also the younger brother of SMU linebacker Richard Moore. Moore is a seventh-year senior who transferred to SMU from Texas A&M after the 2016 season.

SMU is a 30-minute drive from Cedar Hills.

Where does Kansas go from here?

The Jayhawks now have only seven recruits currently committed to the program.

While losing Jalon Peoples is a big loss, Kansas has done its best work recruiting defensive backs this cycle.

Four of those seven recruits are defensive backs — two safeties and two cornerbacks. Dallas Skyline corner Anthony Davis and St. Louis DeSmet safety Kaleb Purdy lead the group.

Those four prospects will help lessen the blow of Peoples’ decommitment and not leave the program out to dry in the secondary.

But Peoples was a big prospect for them. He was the first player to commit after Lance Leipold took over the program.

For a program that is regarded as one of the worst in Power Five football, anytime you lose someone like Peoples, it will be a major loss.
