4-star athlete Sequel Patterson commits to South Carolina

Fort Mill (S.C.) Indian Land four-star athlete Sequel Patterson announced he was reclassifying from 2027 to the Class of 2026 earlier this spring. And despite already being a major target for South Carolina, he became an even bigger priority for them.

The Gamecocks battled Tennessee and a handful of others, but ultimately came out on top Thursday night by landing his commitment. He took what turned out to be his first and only official visit with the Gamecocks earlier this month.

“My visit went really good,” Patterson told On3’s Chad Simmons. “I was around the coaches more, I spent time with some of the players on the team and I got know some of the other recruits. It was great to get back on campus.

… Coach Beamer and Coach Furrey were great to be around. Coach Furrey has a lot of knowledge and coach Beamer is very genuine. I know both want me to stay home and to go there.”

The 6-foot, 170-pounder is coming off a sophomore campaign where he was South Carolina 5A All-State selection. On offense, he carried the ball 76 times for 441 yards (5.8 YPC) and three touchdowns while also catching 52 passes for 758 yards and seven more scores.

Defensively, was credited with 23 tackles, 8 PBU and 2 INT.

After reclassifying, he ranks as the nation’s No. 228 overall prospect and No. 9 athlete, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Patterson is the ninth commitment for the Gamecocks in this class, joining a group headlined by four-star defensive lineman Aiden Harris, his twin brother and four-star EDGE Andrew Harris, top-100 prospect J’Zavien Currence, and the nation’s No. 1 interior lineman, Zyon Guiles.

South Carolina’s class came into the day ranked No. 24 nationally and No. 9 in the SEC, per the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings.
