4-star CB Trystan Haynes sets commitment date

Midwest City (Okla.) Carl Albert four-star cornerback Trystan Haynes will come off of the recruiting board on May 7.

Haynes announced his commitment date on social media Friday afternoon.

He is the nation’s No. 148 overall prospect, No. 18 cornerback and No. 5 recruit from Oklahoma in the 2025 cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking — a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Oklahoma currently leads in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM) with a 93.3 percent chance of landing the star in-state corner. Notre Dame insider Mike Singer and Oklahoma insider Josh McCuistion have logged expert predictions favoring the Sooners at 60 percent and 75 percent, respectively.

Notre Dame, Texas A&M and Miami are two additional schools that have been pursuing Haynes throughout the process.

The 6-foot-2, 180-pound Haynes currently has official visits set to Coral Gables (May 31), College Station (June 7), South Bend (June 14) and Norman (June 21).

Haynes visited OU for the Sooners’ spring game in April.

“The [spring] game was fun though having fun with a couple of my teammates and the recruits,” Haynes told Sooner Scoop. “I speak with Coach Valai and [Brent] Venables often, and I’ve met [Maliek] Hawkins and Sellers a few times. I love the idea of playing with other good cornerbacks.”

Miami defensive backs coach Chevis Jackson also took a trip out to Oklahoma to see Haynes last month. Carl Albert head coach Mike Dunn said the connection between Haynes and Miami’s coaching staff has remained strong.

“I think he’s still wide open,” Dunn said. “In my opinion, that’s what it feels like. It feels like he’s wide open. He was at the spring game at OU just on Saturday and I didn’t know if anything had changed or if his feelings had changed, but he talked about his officials, and he said he’s going to go on all of his officials, every one that he has planned so far.”

Ahead of Haynes’ first visit to Notre Dame last month, his father spoke with BGi.

“It’s the school itself,” Haynes’ father, Shaun, told On3 prior to the ND visit about what interests them in the Fighting Irish. “The academics, the football history, Notre Dame comes with a level of oh man it’s Notre Dame. Past that it’s a good football program. Coach Freeman, good guy. Then we have some family down there.”
