4-star Taison Chatman sets commitment date

Minneapolis (Minn.) Totino-Grace four-star recruit Taison Chatman tells On3 he will announce his college decision on Tuesday, September 20th at 7:00 PM CT. The 6-foot-3 class of 2023 shooting guard will decide between five schools: Minnesota, Virginia, Kansas, Xavier, and Ohio State.

Kansas, Xavier, and Ohio State hosted him on official visits.

Chatman is the No. 47 prospect in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also ranked as the No. 7 shooting guard in the class and the No. 1 prospect in the state of Minnesota.

Chatman breaks down his finalists

In a previous interview with On3, Chatman discussed each of his final schools.

Minnesota: “Minnesota is the hometown school and I have a good relationship with the coaches. It would be pretty cool to stay home and play in front of the city and state I grew up in.”

Virginia: “Virginia did a home visit with me a few months ago. Three of their coaches came and they talked to me and my family about how much they love my game and think I could help their program. Also taking a visit in the fall.”

Kansas: “Kansas was my last official visit I took and I had a great time there. The coaching staff was very genuine and they know what it takes to get to the next level and succeed and they believe that they can help me reach my goals.”

Xavier: “Coach Sean Miller has put many guys in the NBA and his playing style has always been fast. That’s my game as well. I love to play fast and up-tempo so I think I would fit right in at Xavier.”

Ohio State: “They have been recruiting me for a while now and they have also put numerous guys in the league. I’m planning on taking an official to Ohio State in the fall so I can get the full experience and get to know the campus better.”

Scouting Summary

Taison Chatman has a basketball frame with good size and nice length. What stands out the most in his game is his ability to play in the pick and roll. He can make all the reads and does so with a never rushed pace. The motor can get hot and cold, and there are times when he looks disengaged. Chatman has deep range, and he is comfortable off the bounce or off the catch.
