After spending six months committed to Ole Miss, four-star wide receiver Corey Barber reopened his recruitment earlier this week following Lane Kiffin’s departure for LSU. And as soon as he decommitted, Barber already knew what his next move would be. The Pinson (Ala.) Clay-Chalkville standout is officially committed to LSU, joining Kiffin and wide receivers coach George McDonald in Baton Rouge.

Barber, the No. 167 prospect in the Rivals Industry Ranking, said the transition felt natural almost immediately.

“This was pretty easy,” Barber told Rivals. “I’m going to the same offensive coaches that loved me. They feel like I’m that guy, and now I’m going to LSU to play for the same people who believed in me from the beginning.”

Although he only visited LSU once, an unofficial trip during his junior year, the experience made a lasting impression.

“I’ve been there before and saw them play, and it’s everything people say it is. It’s one of the loudest stadiums I’ve ever been in. It gave me chills. The stadium, the facilities—everything stood out.”

Barber had limited communication with LSU’s previous staff, but when Kiffin and McDonald took over, the Tigers quickly became the clear choice.

“Kiffin called me right away,” Barber said. “He wanted me with him. I really trust him. He’s loyal to me, and I’m loyal to him. He and the staff see me as a guy for them. I was the guy they wanted to come with them from Ole Miss to LSU, so I had to make that happen.”

McDonald, who also moved with Kiffin to LSU, played an equally significant role.

“On every visit, I’ve never met a guy like Coach McDonald. He’s so real and so transparent. The proof is in the pudding—he’s been in the NFL, he knows what he’s doing, and he knows how to develop receivers.”

Barber was on an official visit to Washington when McDonald called him with the news that he was joining LSU’s new staff.

“I was taking pictures on the visit when he called,” Barber said. “It hurt a little at first. I had to think about it, talk about it, but everything made sense.”

The chance to play at LSU—one of college football’s premier wide receiver factories—sealed the decision.

“The tradition is rich,” Barber said. “The receiver history is great. There are always eyes on LSU. I’ll be on the biggest stage, and I trust the staff completely.”
