4-star WR Xavier McDonald decommits from Sacramento State
Morton (Miss.) four-star wide receiver Xavier McDonald has decommitted from Sacramento State, he announced on Friday.
The blue-chipper was the highest-rated pledge in program history, but after head coach Brennan Marion left to be Colorado’s offensive coordinator, he held off on signing and ultimately decommitted.
“I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to the Sacramento State coaching staff for believing in me and offering me the opportunity to be a part of the Hornet family,” he wrote on Twitter. “After careful thought and consideration, I have made the decision to decommit from Sacramento State. With Coach Brennan Marion accepting the offensive coordinator position at Colorado, and considering the significant impact he and Coach Lem had on my recruitment, I believe it is in my best interest to reopen my recruitment at this time.
… Thank you again to Sacramento State for the support throughout this process. I look forward to exploring new opportunities ahead. My recruitment is now officially 100% open.”

McDonald and Marion have already been in contact since the news of the move toward Boulder surfaced.
“I am locked in with my coach (Marion), but before I could do anything with my decision, me and my family would have to take a visit to Colorado,” McDonald told Rivals’s Chad Simmons on Thursday.
The Buffaloes, who signed just 11 prospects and have the lowest-ranked class in the Big 12 currently, are now trending as the program to watch for McDonald.
A 6-foot-2, 165-pounder dynamic playmaker, McDonald is the No. 372 overall prospect and No. 59 wide receiver in the class, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, an equally weighted average that utilizes all three major recruiting services.
