5-star safety Jireh Edwards sets commitment date

Five-star Baltimore (Md.) St. Frances Academy safety Jireh Edwards will announce his commitment on July 5, he told On3’s Hayes Fawcett on Wednesday.

Edwards will choose between Alabama, Georgia, Oregon, Auburn, Florida and Texas A&M. He previously named a top five that included the Crimson Tide, Bulldogs, Ducks, Tigers and Aggies, but the Gators have made a strong recent push into his recruitment.

He is coming off an official visit to Georgia last month, and Auburn is up next on his itinerary. The Tigers have been a major threat in his recruitment, and have multiple former St. Frances players on their current roster.

“[They’re] at the top of my list right there with Texas A&M, Oregon, Georgia,” he said of the Tigers back in April. “They do a really hard job of making me–I can never settle on a school because the next day, Auburn will come text me and tell me some good stuff. Auburn will always have that love for me, you know what I’m saying?”

Florida looking to lock in a fall official visit with Edwards

Before he heads to Alabama for his next official visit the weekend of June 5, he’ll make a multi-day stop to see the Gators. He has a strong connection with new safeties coach Vinnie Sunseri from his time at Washington, and he likes what he’s seen from Billy Napier’s staff.

“I think they still fit high for me,” he recently told Gators Online of Florida’s standing in his recruitment. “Me having a chance to get down there means a lot. They’ve wanted to get me down there, and it’s shown me a lot about Florida. They’ve been on my line for a long time. They make me feel comfortable even though I’ve only been down there once. I feel like I will love it once I get down there and see more. I grew up watching the Gators. The facilities and the campus were great on my last visit. There are a lot of things to like at Florida.”

He said it’s possible he will take an official visit to Gainesville in the fall, despite it being after his commitment date. Meanwhile, the Ducks, Aggies, Crimson Tide and Bulldogs will be hoping its their name called on July 5. Each has been a longtime contender in his recruitment, one which is very much considered a toss-up right now.

As a junior, he starred for St. Frances’ talented secondary, being credited with 92 tackles (including 17 tackles for loss) and three forced fumbles.

The 6-foot-1, 205-pounder is the No. 21 overall prospect in the 2026 class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He also ranks as the nation’s No. 2 safety and the No. 3 recruit in Maryland.
