Alabama High School Football: Jake Ganus steps down days after leading Moody to 5A title
It’s not often when you see a head coach decide to leave a state championship-level program. It’s even more rare when it is coming days after leading a program to a state title. In the case of an Alabama high school football coach on Wednesday, that’s exactly what Jake Ganus decided to do.
Ganus announced on Wednesday via X, formerly known as Twitter, that he was stepping down as the head football coach at Moody High School. Ganus last week led Moody to the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) Class 5A state championship in a 25-0 win over Vigor.
“After four incredible years as the head football coach at Moody high school, it is time for me to say thank you and farewell to a place that has meant the world to me and my family. This community welcomed us with open arms and made us feel at home from day one. We will forever be grateful for the relationships, memories, and support that made this journey so special. moody people are some of the best people in the world and I couldn’t be more thankful. I want to give a special thank you to Dr. Chris Walters for believing in me and giving me my shot. he’s the man behind the scenes that makes Moody so special. His vision is what brought me to Moody. and his vision is what will continue to make Moody great. To the players, coaches, parents, administrators, and fans…there are so many that need to be thanked individually but I just want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart. Thank you for your commitment, passion, and unwavering support. I’m incredibly proud of what we built together and so thankful we were able to bring a blue map to Moody. Moody will always hold a special place in my heart. thank you for four unforgettable years.“
Ganus, a former Georgia linebacker, had led Moody the last four seasons since 2022 and guided the program to its first-ever state championship when they defeated Moody.
