Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy five-star defensive lineman David Stone is originally from the Oklahoma City area and has become of the nation’s top recruits in the 2024 class.

He is also a top priority for both Texas A&M and Oklahoma, with the Sooners holding a considerable lead in the race to land him, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM). The Del City (Okla.) native has become a fan favorite for the Sooners, and he has yet to even announce a commitment.

Even former Oklahoma All-American defensive lineman and NFL Pro Bowler Gerald McCoy has gotten involved in recruiting him, tweeting at Stone earlier this spring when his lead recruiter at Michigan State, Brandon Jordan, left for the NFL.

“Welp!! This should be easy now,” McCoy wrote on Twitter. “And you never know who might show up to help you get right!! SEE YOU SOON!!”

And if he wasn’t beloved before by the OU nation, he is now. On Monday, Stone trolled rival Texas fans by tweeting the ‘Horns Down’ emojis to make fun of the Longhorns.

“Can we all agree?” Stone asked while quote-tweeting his original post with the two emojis.

Stone is the No. 10 overall prospect and No. 2 defensive lineman in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 3 player in Florida.

The 6-foot-4, 280-pound Stone has offers from across the country, including Oklahoma, Michigan State, USC, Miami, Florida, Oregon and more.

But OU is trending heavily in the On3 RPM after a handful of recent expert picks.

Following predictions from On3 national recruiting analyst Sam Spiegelman and SoonerScoop.com’s Josh McCuiston, Oklahoma holds an 79.8 percent chance of landing Stone’s commitment.

“Michigan State made a significant push early in 2023, and the Spartans are still a contender, but the momentum has swing back toward the Sooners,” On3 Director of Recruiting Chad Simmons said earlier this week. “David Stone is going to take his visits, he is going to entertain each offer, and he is going to keep as many guessing as possible, but I like where the Sooners sit at this time. Todd Bates and Brent Venables, among others, have done an outstanding job with him and those close to him.”
