5-star OT Felix Ojo spurns in-state Texas and commits to Texas Tech

Mansfield (Texas) Lake Ridge five-star offensive tackle Felix Ojo has committed to Texas Tech, as the Red Raiders pulled off a late shocker to beat out in-state rival Texas.
In addition to the Longhorns, he chose Tech over Oklahoma, Michigan, Ohio State and Ole Miss, among more than 30 other offers. He visited the Red Raiders in April, at which time they made an impression on him as a program that could be headed for big things. And with him in the fold, they just might be.
“The OV to Texas Tech was great,” Ojo told On3’s Steve Wiltfong in April. “The facilities were beautiful. Probably the biggest one in college football. “And what excites me about the program is the feeling that they’re building something special that nobody really sees.”
It’s a landmark recruiting win for head coach Joey McGuire, whose staff made an 11th-hour push to land the No. 1 player in the Lone Star State.

The 6-foot-6, 275-pounder hadn’t included the Red Raiders in his top schools list, but Texas Tech’s staff remained in contact with him and leveraged their opportunities on and off the field to ultimately win out. He joins 2024 Five-Star Plus+ wide receiver Micah Hudson, who transferred from Tech to the Longhorns and then back to Lubbock this offseason, as the highest-ranked commitments ever for the program.
His addition continues a major hot streak for McGuire and Co., who beat out Michigan for four-star safety Donovan Webb on Tuesday and a host of programs on Wednesday for four-star running back Ace Rowden.
Ojo is the No. 6 overall prospect and No. 3 OT in the 2026 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
Felix Ojo Scouting Summary
On3’s scouting and rankings team writes this of Ojo as a prospect:
“Developmental offensive tackle with the frame, length, and physicality to develop into a top prospect at the position. Measured in at around 6-foot-6, 275 pounds with plus length before his senior season. Has a lean, long frame and should be able to add considerable mass once in a college strength program. Pairs his long arms with outstanding hand strength to stun defenders on contact. Punch is palpable, both on film and in the camp setting. Latches onto defensive linemen and manipulates them to his will. Plays with a nasty edge, working to finish blocks. Flashes dominance as a run blocker.
…Play strength, length, and solid athleticism point to upside in pass protection. Showed considerable growth in his game from his sophomore to junior seasons. Will need to improve his lower body flexibility as he can play high and displays some hip stiffness. The youngest top offensive tackle prospect in the cycle, turning 18 years old in July prior to his freshman season of college football. Rapid rate of improvement and notable strengths give him one of the higher upsides among 2026 offensive tackles.”
