HOLLYWOOD, Fla. — One of the more unique prospects of the 2026 class is four-star Chaminade-Madonna (Fla.) wide receiver Jasen Lopez. The football pass-catcher and basketball guard signed with Florida State on Wednesday and credits the authenticity of both programs for the way they recruited him throughout his process.

“The genuineness,” Lopez said of one of the main reasons why he signed with FSU. “Me and my family went up there on a visit, and we felt like it was right. Both basketball and football teams are recruiting on a high level, which led me to make the decision. I just want to thank God for everything.”

Lopez admits that choosing the Seminoles over Miami, NC State, and West Virginia was a tough decision.

“Obviously, it was hard, but I’m grateful for the whole recruiting process. I’m very happy with the decision I made.”

The program will retain football head coach Mike Norvell, who is a significant reason Lopez stuck with the Seminoles.

“Obviously a lot,” Lopez said of the influence of Norvell’s retainment on his decision. “I’ve been talking to Coach Norvell for as long as I can remember. Him being there, he loves being a family. I’m just excited to go over there and play for him and not any other head coach right now.”

Lopez feels confident that he can excel in both sports on the collegiate level.

“A lot of kids are signing just to play football. Me signing to play both is awesome. I’m very grateful for that. The basketball program recruits me like I don’t have a football offer, and that means a lot to me and my family. We’re very close. We stay in contact on a day-to-day basis, and I’m excited to see what the future holds.”

In football, Lopez tallied 56 receptions for 1005 yards, scoring 11 touchdowns in his senior year. The talented slot receiver is preparing for the state semifinals against Trinity Christian this Friday.

“Obviously, competing every day with that type of competition makes you better. I just want to thank Chaminade and thank Coach Jones for welcoming me in and giving me a place to call home.”

Lopez is hoping to make an immediate impact on both the gridiron and hardwood in Tallahassee.

“I’m coming to take over Tally. I’m ready to go make plays.”
