Vanderbilt head coach Mark Byington works with his team against Missouri during the first half at Memorial Gym in Nashville, Tenn., Saturday, March 1, 2025.

Jackson Sheffield, a four-star center in the 2026 class, has committed to Vanderbilt, he told Rivals.

The 6-foot-10 senior out of Hoover (AL) ultimately chose the Commodores over Maryland, but also received offers from Virginia Tech, Mississippi State, Tennessee, Oklahoma, and others.

Sheffield is ranked as the No. 99 overall player in the nation, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking. He’s also the No. 11 ranked center.

Sheffield is Vandy’s second commitment in the 2026 class, joining four-star SF Ethan Mgbako (No. 71 NATL).

Sheffield on his commitment to Vanderbilt

Jackson Sheffield went in-depth on his decision to choose Vandy with Rivals.

“I chose Vanderbilt because of its great academic reputation, competitive basketball program, and amazing basketball coaching staff. Being in a city like Nashville is a plus!”

What led to his trust in the coaching staff?

“The coaching staff expressed a commitment to me as a player and as a student. I’ve gotten to know Coach B (Byington), Coach Cremins, and the other coaches very well over the past few months. My visit to Vanderbilt sealed the deal because they showed me how I would fit into their basketball program and how they would develop me.”

In his own words, what type of player is Vanderbilt getting in him?

“An athletic traditional big that can guard 3-5 with a high motor.”

He has a message for Vandy fans.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to play at Vandy! I’m ready to put in the work, represent the black and gold, and make every moment count! Anchor down!”
