One of the top high school football games in the Sunshine State takes place over on Florida’s South Suncoast region when the undefeated Port Charlotte Pirates (3-0) travel into Powell Davis Stadium to face off against the 4-time state champion Venice Indians (1-1). Which club out of the 941 comes away with the win?

Pirates to Watch

Port Charlotte has rolled through the first three games of the season with blowouts victories in every contest. Now heading into more of the meat of their schedule, the Pirates look to avenge a 49-41 loss to Venice from a season ago.

QB Logan Flaherty: The junior quarterback has to be at the top of his game against the Indians if the Pirates want to pull off the upset win. Flaherty this season has thrown for 479 yards and 12 touchdowns.

RB Bruce Blanden: Lining up next to Flaherty play-to-play is Blanden at running back. The sophomore has rushed for nearly 300 yards this fall.

WR Dallas Lambert: Leading the wide receiving corps for Port Charlotte is Lambert, who has hauled in 13 passes for 245 yards and five touchdowns.

ATH Ahmad’dra Greene: Greene has been a tackling machine for the Pirates this season, racking in a team-high 18 total tackles.

Indians to Watch

The Indians are coming off their first win of the season, defeating Bishop Verot in a 27-12 decision. Venice, Florida’s defending Class 7A state champions, look to make it two in a row against Port Charlotte tonight.

EDGE Asharri Charles: The Miami commitment will need to pressure Flaherty early and often if Venice wants to come away with the victory on Friday night.

RB Dorien Jones: Jones has to be an X-Factor tonight against Port Charlotte’s front seven. Last season, Jones rushed for 1,398 yards and scored 17 touchdowns as a sophomore.

WR Tyree Mannings: Arguably the most talented player on the field for either team, the 2028 product could see time at Wildcat QB, in the slot and out wide at the X or Z.

QB Darryon Jones: Big question mark heading into this game is how much playing time will Jones see for the Indians after just one week at Venice? All of that will be known once the two teams take the field.
