In-state TE Caden Ramsey commits to the South Carolina Gamecocks

Shane Beamer and his staff continue to make in-state recruiting a priority, and their latest addition proves it. Caden Ramsey, a three-star tight end from Cross (S.C.) High School, has committed to South Carolina.
The 6-foot-5, 210-pounder is ranked as the No. 20 tight end nationally and the No. 7 overall prospect in South Carolina in the Rivals Rankings. South Carolina offered Ramsey over the summer after a thorough evaluation, and the Gamecocks ultimately won out over programs such as East Carolina, Georgia Tech, Syracuse, and Virginia Tech.
Ramsey built strong connections in Columbia. Head coach Shane Beamer was involved and Ramsey was very complimentary toward him. Shawn Elliott was the lead recruiter, and he played a major role in his recruitment.
“Coach Elliott sat and had breakfast with my family at the junior day,” Ramsey told Rivals earlier this year. “Things like that mean a lot to me. Coach Elliott is a straight country boy and so am I. He came in jeans and cowboy boots. If you’re from the country like me, we respect that. Those boots were a sign to me of hard work.”

That type of connection, along with the atmosphere in Columbia, ultimately sealed the deal for Ramsey.
“South Carolina is a good school. The coaches are cool and the atmosphere is nice,” he said.
Ramsey is a versatile playmaker who also plays basketball. He has a strong résumé at both receiver and defense. As a junior, he caught 40 passes for 749 yards and nine touchdowns at wide receiver. He added five touchdowns. Defensively, he posted 54 tackles and 13 interceptions across 14 games last season.
He joins Jamal Howse as the second tight end committed to South Carolina and the Gamecocks now have 16 commits in this recruiting cycle.
