Interesting Opening Spread for Pitt/Va Tech
There are currently 22 unbeaten FBS football teams and two of them will do battle Friday night as Pitt takes on Virginia Tech.
The Panthers still have 8 games left in the season but looking at their remaining schedule, this game against the Hokies could turn out to be one of those season defining games.
A win against Virginia Tech not only would set up Pitt to possibly jump out to a 7-0 start, but it would also give them a quality conference road win along with allowing them to stay atop the ACC standings.
One other reason this upcoming game is important is that it would give Pat Narduzzi an early win over James Franklin as he begins to rebuild the Virginia Tech program. Don’t buy into what’s said this week between the coaches, this is a game that both Narduzzi and Franklin REALLY want to win.

Both teams enter this game with records of 4-0, but the oddsmakers are installing Virginia Tech as favorites to win, currently having them as 3.5-point favorites. That spread is interesting because it started off as Va Tech favored by 5.5 points.
Virginia Tech’s four wins this season have been against VMI (73-3), Old Dominion (44-21), Maryland (35-26) and Boston College (21-14). The game this past Saturday was played in a rainstorm and was tied at 14 all late in the 4th quarterback before Hokies running back Jeffrey Overton scored on a 76-yard TD run.
The last matchup between these two teams took place in 2023 with Virgina Tech coming away with a 38-21 victory.
