Iowa State LB signee Elijah Reeder released from National Letter of Intent
Iowa state linebacker signee and three-star prospect Elijah Reeder has been released from his National Letter of Intent with the Cyclones, he announced on Tuesday.
His decision comes after the departure of ISU head coach Matt Campbell for Penn State earlier this month, along with the hiring of Washington State coach Jimmy Rogers to replace him. Reeder committed to ISU and signed on December 3, the first day of the Early Signing Period.
But with the coaching staff upheaval, he is now looking for a new home.
“First off I wanted to thank lowa State for giving me with the opportunity to be a Cyclone,” he wrote in Twitter in his announcement. “After a lot of prayer and conversations with my family, I have decided to De-Commit from lowa State University. With that being said my recruitment is now 100% open!”
And within just a few minutes of making his decision public, Reeder announced an offer from Campbell and his new staff in Happy Valley.

The Nittany Lions are considered the strong favorites to ultimately land him. Earlier this week, Rivals’ Steve Wiltfong named Penn State as a school to watch for Reeder if he was released from his signing.
Tabbed by the Rivals Industry Ranking as the nation’s No. 53 edge and No. 9 overall prospect in New Jersey, Reeder totaled 50 tackles this season, including 19 stops for loss and eight sacks. He also forced a fumble and had six rushing touchdowns on offense.
A native of Bayville, New Jersey, playing for the Nittany Lions would give Reeder a chance to stay close to home and play for one of the Big Ten’s premier programs.
