Jomaru Brown has Pittsburgh, VCU ahead with more coming after the transfer

On March 7, Jomaru Brown put his name into the transfer portal. Immediately college programs from across the country were in contact.
The 6-foot-2 point guard Jomaru Brown scored 1,436 points during his four seasons at Eastern Kentucky. He was the 2018-19 OVC All-Freshman and a 2019-20 first-team All-OVC. Brown missed most of the 2020-21 season after having shoulder surgery; he returned to lead Eastern Kentucky in scoring and steals this past season for the second time.
“Texas A&M, Arkansas, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Virginia Tech, VCU, etc.,” Brown told On3. “VCU and Pittsburgh have been the most consistent schools in contact with me.
“I am finishing up school right now, so I will start scheduling visits when I get time, and things line up with the schools’ schedules. VCU and Pittsburgh are at the top of my list, but new schools are still reaching out.”
Brown talks recruiting
VCU: “They have a very unique style of play, and they believe I fit what they are all about on both sides of the ball.”

Pittsburgh: “Coach (Jeff) Capel’s offense is well established. They believe a guy like me can move them up a few notches defensively in the ACC.”
“Both schools have huge expectations for their programs. They both think I can be a big part of their success next season,” Brown added.
Brown’s thoughts
“I’m mostly looking for a winning culture and a good fit,” Brown said. “I think a good fit for me would definitely be somewhere where they compliment my strengths; playing fast, taking pride in defense, and being able to create off the dribble.”
Coming out of Durham (NC) Southern High, Brown committed to Eastern Kentucky over offers from Florida Atlantic, Georgia Southern, Radford, Evansville, James Madison, etc. This will be Brown’s first time entering the portal. The red-shirt junior is working to graduate at year’s end.
