One of the best in the Sunshine State will head north in ACC country.

Winter Garden (Fla.) West Orange High School’s Devonte Anderson announced a verbal commitment to Louisville football on Friday.

Cardinals Cornerbacks coach Steve Ellis, who is projecting the 6-foot-1, 185-pound prospect at cornerback, gets a major assist in what was a win over Auburn and several other programs tracking the rising-senior recruit.

“Coach Ellis told me what it was,” Anderson told Rivals. “I’ll come in, play early and he’s going to get me to where I want to go — and that’s the league. Play corner and be a guy.

“It feels great to hear because I believe that can happen!”

The head man at Louisville was also involved in what became a deep ACC vs. SEC battle at the top of this recruitment.

“Relationship with the head coach, Coach (Jeff) Brohm,” he said. “Talking to the players and seeing how they feel about the program, too. They love it.

“It’s just an overall great program.”

Anderson was a two-way impact player for the Warriors on Friday nights, registering better than 17 yards per reception on offense. A longtime secondary projection, Anderson worked multiple positions on the back end and splashed for three interceptions, 10 pass breakups and even a sack as a junior.

A physical prospect, who worked the cornerback spot well recently at the OT7 Finals event, the new Cardinal also brings plenty of confidence to the table.

“Go Cards!” Anderson said. “They’re getting a dog for sure.”

Cardinals putting in work in the Sunshine State

Anderson is already commitment No. 5 in the state of Florida for the 2026 recruiting cycle and the third to commit this summer after pass-catchers Julius Miles and DJ Williams.

At UofL, Anderson will reunite with 7-on-7 teammate and fellow Floridian Jaydin Broadnax, an early pledge to Brohm and company. Each stands as two of the bigger cornerback projections among those committed to Power Four programs to date.

Of the out-of-state P4 programs recruiting the Sunshine State, only Syracuse (Seven) and Georgia Tech (six) hold more verbal commitments than Louisville thus far in the 2026 cycle.
